Since your WordPress site’s theme serves as a visual representation of your brand, it’s crucial to choose one that will directly impact your users’ experience in a positive way.
Although a WordPress theme may look and have the features you need, it may not be enough to fulfill the needs of your entire website.
If your website is in need of a makeover, you may want to consider using multiple themes. This can help to make your website more attractive and improve its functionality.
Why use multiple themes for pages in WordPress?
When you create a WordPress website, you select a theme to determine the appearance and format of your site. By default, every page of your website has the same theme.
When you want part of your website to look different from the rest, you can use a different layout. This can be useful for pages like your privacy policy page or your 404 page.
Create a backup of your WordPress website before you proceed with any changes. This way, you can restore your website if anything goes wrong.
1. Prepare for the installation
Make sure to create a backup of your site before you install and use Multiple Themes. This way, you can restore your WordPress website to its original version if any content is lost during the process.
The process may vary slightly for other platforms, but the overall idea is the same. The process for backing up a site on Hostinger is simple. Log in to the cPanel, and navigate to Files -> Backups. To back up a WordPress site, you’ll need to download the MySQL database and website files. The process may vary slightly for other platforms, but the idea is the same.
To backup your files, first click “Select” under the “Files backups” heading. Then, select the date of the backup you want to download and click “Prepare to Download.” The system will start the backup process and send you a notification once the backup is ready to download.
Click the Select button under Database backups. Choose the backup data you want to download, click Show databases, and select the most recent backup date. Then, click Download.
If you receive a notification, click it to download the database file.
2. Activate the multiple themes plugin
After backing up the website and deactivating all caching plugins, Installing Multiple Themes is the next step. This plugin lets users install more than one theme for WordPress pages and posts.
This tool allows you to set a different theme for the homepage or a specific URL and match the look of all links that start with the same characters or prefix URL. It also allows changing the theme for URLs containing a particular query keyword without changing the currently active theme.
When using this plugin, it is better to use WordPress themes from the theme directory instead of paid themes. To install the plugin, log in to your WordPress admin panel and navigate to Plugins -> Add New. Then, enter Multiple Themes in the search bar and click Install Now.
3. Using a different theme for your homepage
Once you’ve activated the plugin, go to Appearance in your Dashboard, then select the Multiple Themes plugin to configure it.
Make sure that you are on the Settings tab. You will need to scroll down to the Site Home section. From there, choose a theme from the dropdown menu.
After making your changes, click the ‘Save All Changes’ button to apply them.
Using a different theme for your WooCommerce shop
The default Storefront theme or other leading WooCommerce theme is the best choice for your WooCommerce store. This theme is optimized for WooCommerce and will work best with your store and website.
To change your WordPress theme using the Multiple Themes plugin, go to Settings » Multiple Themes.
Using a different theme for your website’s homepage can help you achieve a more unique look. To change your theme, go to the ‘Settings’ tab and scroll down to the ‘Theme’ section. From there, you can select a new theme for your homepage.
1. Next, click on the “Advanced Settings” tab and scroll down to the “Select Theme for All Pages” section. 2. Here, change the theme for both pages and posts from the drop down menus.
Then, type /blog into the box next to ‘Page Address’. But you have one more step to complete if you created a separate page for blog posts. If you want people to be able to see your blog posts, you need to go back to the ‘Settings’ tab and scroll down to the section that starts with ‘For an Individual Page’. Then, type /blog into the box next to ‘Page Address’.
After selecting a theme from the drop-down menu, enter the URL of your blog page into the ‘URL of Page, Post, Prefix or other’ field.
If you want to customize the appearance of your second WordPress theme, you can do so by modifying the theme’s CSS. If you want to customize the appearance of your second WordPress theme, you can do so by modifying the theme’s CSS.
If you want to configure the alternate theme, you will have to temporarily activate it.
To customize the Twenty Twenty theme, go to Appearance » Customize.
When you’re done adjusting the settings for your theme, go back to the Appearance section of your WordPress site and reactivate the theme.
To find more advanced options for your theme, go to the Theme Options tab on the plugin’s Settings page.
5. Set up multiple themes
It’s time to set up the plugin and start adding multiple themes to your site. Let’s see three different ways to install different WordPress themes with the best plugin.
Select a different theme for the homepage
To change the site’s homepage to a different theme, go to the settings page for the Multiple Themes plugin under Appearance.
On the Settings page, scroll down to Site Home. Then, you can choose a theme from the Select Theme for Site Home drop-down menu.
Click save all changes when you are done so that the Twenty Nineteen theme will be set for the homepage while the rest of the website uses a different theme.
If you want a certain theme to be displayed when a specific keyword is typed into the URL, you can set that up on the _ page. To view all the theme rules you have set with this plugin, go to the __ section on the Settings page.
To delete an entry, check the box next to Delete and click Save All Changes.
Select a different theme using a specific URL
To do this, go to the ‘For An Individual Page, Post or other non-Admin page’ section on the plugin’s Settings page.
Choose the “URL” option under “Select here if URL is a Prefix.” Next, select a theme from the “Theme” drop-down menu. We have chosen “Twenty Twenty.” Finally, enter your site URL in the “URL of Page, Post, Prefix or other” field.
After you click ‘Save All Changes,’ a new theme will be added and you can see it by visiting the page.
Select a different theme using a Query Keyword
To use this method, go to the For A Query Keyword setting on any Page, Post, or other non-Admin page section on the plugin’s Settings page.
Then, select a theme in the drop-down menu. We used the Twenty Twenty-One theme here. Next, fill in the Query Keyword box with a word or phrase. We used “test” as the keyword here.
If you want to change the theme for a site link, finish by clicking ‘Save All Changes.’ Any site links that contain the keyword you entered will use the new theme.
This option can also be used to add theme selection entries based on a query keyword and value in the URLs.
To get started, go to any non-admin page and select an option from the Theme drop-down menu next to the search bar.
After inputting the keyword and value in the provided fields, hit the “Save All Changes” button. Doing this will cause any pages with URLs containing the query keyword and value to display the active theme defined in this setting.
To check all the theme rules you set with this plugin, go to the ‘Current Theme Selection Entries’ section on the Settings page.
6. Customize the theme
To use a specific theme, first activate it temporarily.
Log in to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance -> Themes. Hover over the theme you want to customize and click Activate. In this example, the active theme is Twenty Twenty, and the one we’ll modify is Twenty Nineteen.
After activating the theme, you will need to modify the template to your liking. To do this, go to Appearance -> Customize. Once you have made all the changes you want, click Publish to save them.
To change your theme back to the previous one, go to Appearance -> Themes and reactivate it. If you want to modify the theme for a specific page without changing the other pages, head to Appearance -> Multiple Themes plugin. Then, click the Advanced Settings tab.
Scroll down to the “Theme for Everything” section on the Advanced Settings page and select your WordPress active theme from the drop-down menu.
To change your theme, click Save All Changes, then go to Appearance -> Themes. You can now activate and customize any theme you want without affecting the themes of other pages. There is no need to reactivate the previous theme.
After you are done, either leave the setting the same or go back to the Multiple Themes plugin -> Advanced Setting -> Theme for Everything and select the blank option from the drop-down menu.
The Advanced Settings page also allows you to set multiple themes for different pages and posts. To do this, scroll down to For All Pages and/or All Posts and select the themes individually. Click Save All Changes to finish.
To find the advanced settings for your theme, go to the Theme Options tab on the Multiple Themes’ Settings page.
7. Using multiple templates with a page builder
